Referendum Application Filed

On December 3, 2019, City Council approved the Open Space Disposal and Removal of Neighborhood Option Trails in the Wimbleton Subdivision. On December 10, 2019, citizens of Highland City filed a referendum application challenging that law and ordered that it be referred to the voters for their approval at a future election. The process for a referendum is outlined in Utah State Code Title 20A Chapter 7Part 6 and Part 4. The state also has a very informative walk-through of the process which can be found at the following link:

Proposition Information Pamphlet

As part of the referendum process, the City has produced a Proposition Information Pamphlet that includes: (1) a copy of the referendum application, (2) an argument prepared by the sponsors of the referendum, (3) an argument prepared by the municipality, and (4) a fiscal and legal impact statement. Please view the pamphlet by clicking on the following link: Wimbleton Proposition Information Pamphlet. In order for the law to be placed on the ballot of an upcoming election, sponsors of the referendum are required to collect 1,183 valid signatures by February 20, 2020. Utah County and City will then verify the signatures by March 25, 2020 and communicate the results and next steps at that time.
